Our Top 10 best places to eat in Queenstown

The Queenstown Lakes District is spoilt for choice when it comes to exceptional restaurants and cafes. When you’re booking your luxury holiday in Queenstown, it pays to know the best places to eat in Queenstown and Arrowtown. And what better way to do that than by getting advice from locals!

The local team at New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Luxury Rental Homes knows the Queenstown restaurant scene well. To help you out, we’ve personally hand-picked our top 10 best places to eat in Queenstown. These are all listed in our Luxury Rental Homes Insider’s Guide.

Rata 43 Ballarat Street, Queenstown

Brought to life by well-known New Zealand Michelin star chef Josh Emett and local restauranteur Fleur Caulton, Rata is a relaxed restaurant with first-class food and service, tucked in away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown. It also features a comprehensive Central Otago and New Zealand wine list.

Saffron 18 Buckingham Street, Arrowtown

The menu at this award-winning restaurant is constantly changing to reflect the seasons and features the best in local produce with an international twist. It’s the go-to for locals as well as Hollywood’s elite.

The Sherwood 554 Frankton Road, Queenstown

A little bit eclectic, The Sherwood serves nourishing, organic and simple soul food that is well cooked and beautifully presented. Most of the meals incorporate produce that has been grown on-site. You’ll leave feeling virtuous.

Madam Woo 5 The Mall, Lower Ballarat Street, Queenstown

Another one of Josh Emett’s gems, Madam Woo has a fresh and flavoursome menu inspired by Malaysian street food. Handily located in The Mall, it’s the perfect lunch destination in between a spot of shopping and an afternoon on the lake. The Hawker rolls are a must-try.

Botswana Butchery 17 Marine Parade, Queenstown

Romantic log fires and stylish décor set the scene for an incredible dining experience at Botswana Butchery. The menu offers everything from Bordeaux snails to slow-roasted Cardrona lamb shoulder and the champagne list is extensive. Enjoy a quiet drink in the upstairs lounge before settling in to dine in a luxurious private room.

Fergburger 42 Shotover Street

Fergburger is a Queenstown institution – the burgers are enormous and full of flavour. Try the blue cod “Codfather” or the pork belly “Chief Wiggum” and wash it down with a gelato thick shake. Tip: Beat the queues and phone in your order.

Winnies 7-9 The Mall, Queenstown

With a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere and opening rooftop, Winnie’s is the place to go for a great pizza, a cold beer and a spot of people watching. The Zucha and Peking pizzas are superb.

Jervois Steakhouse Brecon Street, Queenstown

Design your meal by selecting your preferred cut of prime beef, then pair it with elegant sides and sauces. The dessert menu at Jervois is just as impressive as the mains – we recommend the chocolate fondant with bourbon gel and maple kumara ice cream.

Amisfield 10 Lake Hayes Road, RD 1, Queenstown

Amisfield is home to one of the region’s best winery experiences. The Bistro offers a choice of a seasonal à la carte menu or Amifield’s famous signature ‘Trust the Chef’ menu – perfect for shared dining. Spend the afternoon in this incredible setting and relax with their fabulous wine selection.

Akarua Wines & Kitchen by Artisan 265 Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Road, Queenstown

We love this restaurant for its relaxed casual atmosphere and lovely setting. The food is fabulous and a little more low-key than what you would expect from a winery. The menu changes seasonally and it’s open for breakfast too. Great for families with the gardens and children’s play area.
