Hello, I'm Fraser Holland, Managing Director for New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty in the central region. Today, I'm thrilled to take you on a journey to the heart of New Zealand's North Island.

The Waikato region enjoys breathtaking landscapes, vibrant communities, and exceptional real estate opportunities. Join me as we explore Taupo and Cambridge, two jewels in Waikato's crown, each offering a unique blend of lifestyle, culture, and commerce.

First, let's delve into Taupo, a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Nestled on the shores of New Zealand's largest lake, Taupo is more than a picturesque holiday destination; it's a lifestyle choice for those who crave outdoor activities.

The real estate market in Taupo is as diverse as its landscapes. Whether you're searching for a bach overlooking the lake or a luxurious residence amidst tranquil settings, Taupo offers properties that cater to every taste and budget. The demand for real estate here is growing along with the number of new residential developments. Taupo’s allure, is reflected with many out-of-town and international buyers drawn to its beauty and value - investing in property used as holiday homes and with a growing number of folk moving on a permanent basis for a more relaxed, yet vibrant life.

Two standout properties currently on offer through our Taupo office are:

87 Rokino Road is for sale by negotiation. This large home is perfect for families who want space and convenience. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a sparkling pool and tennis court all within minutes of the centre of the town.

An exceptional 376 sq m home set in established, 4068 sq m grounds in Chesham Avenue, Waipahihi is on two titles. This substantial home has been beautifully refurbished and offers multiple options with up to 6 bedrooms, multiple indoor and covered outdoor living, significant boat storage and a stunning saltwater pool.

The REINZ median price for Taupo for February was $830,000. This has remained fairly consistent lately, having risen more than 10% over the last 6 months.

Specialising in the top end of the market, let's take a look at a couple of recent significant sales our Sotheby's team have brokered.

A two-level luxury lakeside apartment on Lake Terrace enjoys a stunning water-front location with equally jaw-dropping views and walking distance to town.

The ever popular, lakeside holiday spot of Kinloch is host to 42 Lacebark Drive. This home sold for $1.6M and the new owners are enjoying the lovely lake views, and a daily dose of nature with the enchanting native scenery that surrounds the home.

Moving north to Cambridge and the wider Waipa district; the 'Home of Champions’ is renown for its thoroughbred horse industry and rowing prowess, and a plethora of beautiful lifestyle property.

Cambridge's real estate market is dynamic, inviting and growing - featuring a mix of traditional and contemporary homes. The area's growth has been spurred by its attractive lifestyle and proximity to Hamilton and Auckland, making it a sought-after location for those who value community and connectivity. Investing in Cambridge and surrounds means becoming part of a thriving region with a bright future.

The median REINZ value in Cambridge for February is $975,000 reflecting its upmarket property options. The wider Waipa District, of which Cambridge is a part, has a median of $840,000. Both Hamilton and the broader Waikato region currently sit around $750,000.

Some properties of note our team have recently sold are:

2/164 Fencourt Road, the ultimate lifestyle property with uninterrupted rural views, peace, privacy and tranquillity, and only a few minutes’ drive from Cambridge.

With stunning views and perfect to realise a dream equestrian estate, 263B Horahora Road in Karapiro sold for $2.4m. This property features a 284sq m home and approximately 11 hectares of land.
