When this home was designed, the brief was clear. It had to take full advantage of the spectacular, uninterrupted views that its site on Closeburn Station offered. The house has been built to reflect the landscape and encapsulate the surrounding vistas of the four seasons. The rich colours and hues of the Lakes District resonate throughout the interior, bringing warmth and personality to an immaculately presented residence.
Full height windows throughout the house draw in the breath-taking scenery. There are expansive views of Lake Wakatipu, and the iconic Remarkables Range, Cecil and Walter Peaks, and Mount Nicholas. This ring of mountains gleams white with snow in winter.
Entertaining and cooking are a pleasure in this home. So take the time to dine in the formal area or have morning coffee in the conservatory. Then settle into the living room and savour the views of a spot-lit garden at night or the lake and mountains by day.
There are three spacious bedrooms in two separate wings. Both areas can be heated and cooled independently. The main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and a dressing room with walk-in his and hers wardrobes and storage areas.
The guest wing is completely private. It has two bedrooms. They share an elegant bathroom with hues of red and brown. There are two adjacent offices in the guest wing.
The grounds and landscaping are styled to blend with the native bush and alpine surroundings, but done in a way to minimise maintenance. In the main courtyard, there is a fountain which spills water gently into a reflection pool. The paved area is ideal for BBQs and al fresco entertaining.
A two-storey 'barn' is available to Closeburn home owners and their guests for entertainment and gatherings. Close by is a synthetic grass tennis court that can also be used as a basketball, badminton or miniature soccer/hockey court. The station has three lakes stocked with trout and four comfortable 'huts'. There is a riding arena, and a network of walking, riding and 4wd tracks.
