Temple Bar House is named after a place on the rocks below the house where local Maori used to meet and gather seafood. It's located 5 minutes away from Russell on the ocean side. Through the secure gated entry and you could be 100 miles away and yet close to the local cafes. The first impression is quality-the long 2.5 metre high central Otago schist wall that protects the rear courtyard and front entrance.
Walking into the entrance hallway you are taken back by the island views you spy through the open plan lounge -it's like you're living directly above them- 180 degree views from Tapeka Point to the Nine Pin across to Motuaroha Island and over to the Cape Brett Peninsula on the right.
The main living areas are open plan and user friendly-the high ceilings in the lounge and open fire place tell a story of warmth, family and comfort. Beautiful spotted gum floors throughout. The kitchen is thoughtfully designed with views of the ocean while standing at the kitchen sinks-ceasar stone bench tops, under bench cool drawer and dish drawer and storage drawers-recessed fridge/freezer-120cm Smeg double oven with gas hobs completes the picture. Behind all this is the butler's pantry, fully equipped with beer and wine fridges, another dish drawer, sinks, work places and storage.
On the western side of the kitchen is the dining room and off the back of that is a small snug - a getaway area. A double sided wood burner separates the two rooms with a wet back to boost hot water supplies.
On the eastern side of the lounge is the 'owners' area, comprising master bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom to die for. Just imagine yourself spread out in the bath tub looking at the fabulous views. This area also has a large office/study or could be a fourth bedroom.
On the western end of the property, upstairs, over the kitchen, dining areas are two large bedrooms and shared bathroom. There is also a mezzanine area that overlooks the lounge and works as a second lounge area for the family or a computer/games room.
